Heartbeats Mural- 2701 Main Street, Dallas TX (northern back wall facing Elm Street)
Â
As a high school kid, I remember driving through Deep Ellum on a field trip and seeing the beautiful murals that lined the roads and thinking to myself, "I wonder if I'll ever be good enough to do something like that?"
18 years later, on my 37th birthday eve, I received a phone call informing me that my painting "Heartbeats" was selected by the 42 Murals Project to be painted on a 14x16' wall at 2701 Main Street in Deep Ellum!Â
On top of that, I was able to have some of my North Lake College superstar students help me paint it!
Â
We finished my Deep Ellum 42 Murals Project painting, Heartbeats on Saturday, September 19, 2015. It is located across the street from Trees and Green Room in the parking lot between Dada and Fuzzys. It was a blast painting!Â
Thank you to my students Angela Sharp & Amy Branch-Lambert for your amazing help! And, thank you to Grant Ziegler for coming out and supporting us and documenting the process and experience through photography!Â
Â
I hope that my mural Heartbeats makes the streets of Dallas easier on the eyes and even more full of love for years to come. In addition, I hope that everyone can find their own unique interpretation and meaning within the painting, but I also wanted to share my own personal content and intent behind the work. Heartbeats is all about energy. The energy that we all share. The energy that is within us and all around us. The energy that is life and existence. My figures are abstract, because our bodies are just temporal forms and containers for our colorful spirits, experiences, and souls. We cannot control what we look like on the outside, where we are born when we come into this crazy wonderful world, or who we make our family, but we can control our energy, what we create, what we produce, and how we connect and interact with one another. In a world filled with love and war, kindness and hate, birth and death, I pray that this painting inspires anyone who sees it to look past our physical forms to see and feel that our energy is the same energy as everyone's and everything's all around the world. We all share the same heartbeat. Please help me make it loud, beautiful, loving, and strong.
